Ashley Neelands

Ashley Neelands

Name and where you’re from?

I am Ashley Neelands from Orange County, California

What are your passions in life?

I work in ministry, love creating in any capacity, surfing as much as I can, and finding healthy and inspiring ways to use social media for good.

Who or what inspires you?

There are a lot of really rad professional female surfers who charge it in the ocean but also aren't afraid to be fun with fashion and style. Sage Erickson is one of them! Being in the ocean, in general, always inspires me to slow down, remember that I don't have control over everything, and appreciate every moment.

What words best describe you and make you TrueCharacter?

Unapologetically myself, and accepting of others—whether it's with fashion, beliefs, or personality. When we meet in person, talk on the phone, or you find yourself on my Instagram, I just want people to feel safe and that they can also be themselves.

What phrase or saying do you live by?

"When in doubt, put a hat on." ;) But really, one of the greatest icebreakers I have in life revolves around the hats I wear—and then I almost always end up connecting with that person on a deeper level! And let's be honest, life is too busy to have a good hair day every day.

How would you describe your fashion and/or hat style?

Unique, and certainly not a rule follower (well, in legal terms I abide by all of the laws). One day I could be roughing it on a trail with a sweaty trucker hat, and the next be in a whimsical dress with one of my favorite wide-brim fedoras. I never loved the idea that you could only be a "tomboy" or a "girly-girl." You can be both. And sometimes some cut-off jeans, a band tee, and a captain's hat are my best move.
